Turning Old Homes Green

Small Green House

Are you looking for a green home in the central Phoenix area?  How about an affordably priced green home?  That’s what GreenStreet Development specializes in.  They buy older downtown homes, turn them green, and put them back on the market for under $150,000.  They must be doing something right, their homes take an average of twenty days to sell.

The homes sold by GreenStreet Development have all been certified by either NAHB or the U.S. Green Building Council.  They also come with a performance report showing it’s pre and post remodel energy efficiency score.  They believe this is how homes should be sold, with statistics about energy usage, water usage, indoor air quality stats and projected energy costs.

When the homes have been remodeled  and ready for the market they are using between 20 to 70 percent less water and electricity.  The indoor air quality has also improved because of eco-friendly paints and finishes.

Phillip Beere is the founder of GreenStreen Development and he believes it is wrong for people to say that green is more expensive.  He is proving them right by turning these homes made in the 40s, 50s and 60s, into high performance homes.

The homes they buy are mostly repossessed homes and their target area is within walking distance to the light rail.  Being able to walk to work, or to public transportation, is a big part of what makes a home green.  Not making a daily drive to work cuts your carbon footprint enormously.
